What happens on December 3?

In 2020, users flooded TikTok with videos referencing the date December 3 – and it’s now become an annual tradition.

The trend refers to Conan Gray’s song Heather which plays in the background of all videos posted on that particular date.

The song had previously been popularized on the social media site as “Heather” was also referenced.

The term Heather refers to the 1988 film Heathers, meaning a pretty, popular girl.

Many TikTok users hope that December 3 will result in them becoming lucky in love.

TikTok fans hope that their secret crush will finally return their feelings with a gesture – and some even mark the day by giving their sweater to the person they’re interested in.

What started the TikTok trend?

The trend originated from the first line of Gray’s song: “I still remember the third of December”.

It continues: “Me in your sweater, you said it looked on me, than it did you, only if you knew / How much I liked you.”

The song is about pining for someone on the date and people on TikTok have fallen in love with the day – proclaiming that it should be celebrated in the same manner every year.

It includes hopes that they will be given a sweater by their crush as that’s what happens in the song.

Others, however, have been sitting on their sweaters wishing they would be asked out.

As of December 2, 2021, Conan Gray’s song Heather has 88million views on YouTube.
